एक संकेत के रूप में ‘आतंक’ को,उसके ‘अर्थ’ को, संभवतः, ‘हमारे समय’ में, उसे धारण और अतिव्याप्त करने वाले प्रत्यय (“वाद”) के संसर्ग से ही, संकेतन से ही समझा जा सकता है और उस पर कोई भी (प्र-)वचन सदैव उस संकेतन या संसर्ग की विधि से, उसके कूटों में ही संभव है; कि वह एक ‘वाद’, ‘एक अनुष्ठान’, एक नज़ारा (Spectacle), एक ‘संघटना’, एक ‘प्रति-वचन’ ‘प्रति-शोध’ है – यह वो प्रदत्त सिमेण्टिक पर्यावरण है जिसमें ही आतंक के बारे में कुछ (भी) कहा जा सकना संभव है मानो. समूचा ‘विमर्श’ एक कर्ता- विमर्श है; जो इस कर्म के लक्ष्य हैं वे इसमें या नहीं हैं, अदृश्य हैं, मौन हैं या ‘सज्जा’ हैं – एक बलात् विषयांतर. वे ‘त्रासदी’ की वर्षगांठों के अनुष्ठान में अंकित हो गये हैं […]

The sign of terror and its ‘meaning’ are not readable in ‘our times’ except with the suffix ‘ism’ that has ‘effectively’ taken it over. Any discourse on terror is possible only when dictated by that suffix and its controlled significations/codes, and that terror is an ‘ism’, is a ‘ritual’, a ‘spectacle’, a ‘phenomenon’, a counter-discourse, a revenge – this is the given semantic environment in which saying some/anything about terror seems to possible. It’s the discourse of the doer. Those who are its target(s) are either not there, or invisible, or mute, or (at worst) an ‘exhibit’ – a forced digression. The victims are the permanent showpieces in the rituals of ‘tragedy’. […]
