पीयूष दईया / Piyush Daiya

Born on 27th August 1973, in Bikaner (Rajasthan), Piyuish Daiya is one of the foremost names in the current Hindi literary and art scene. He was founder editor of Purovak (Shravan Sansthaan, Udaipur) and Bahuvachan (Mahatma Gandhi International Hindi University, Wardha) – Hindi journals on literature, culture and thought – and has edited two anthologies of folk-studies Lok and Lok ka Aalok, two volumes of Kala Bharati for the Lalit Kala Akademi, Delhi, besides having, for many years, edited Bhartiya Lok Kala Mandal, Udaipur’s quarterly journal Rangaayan. His editorial and creative work has been appreciated by almost all the important senior and younger writers in Hindi including Nirmal Verma, Satchidanand Sinha and Ashok Vajpeyi, and has also received praise in languages other than Hindi.
He has edited and translated Haku Shah’s essays into Hindi as well as his four books for children. Three book-length conversations with the important Indian painters, Haku Shah, Akhilesh and Manish Pushkale have also been published, and he is currently working on similar projects with the painters Ramkumar and Prabhakar Kolte. Besides having worked on numerous research-projects, Piyush has been acting as consultant to a few institutes, has translated the Greek poet Cavafy into Hindi and is working on an anthology of world poetry. Some of his work, including a long story for children, has been published by the UNDP.
He recently curated Lokmat Samachar’s annual special on new writing, and is presently working on finishing his novel Marg Madarjaat, for which he was awarded the Krishna Baldev Vaid Fellowship. His second collection of poetry is also soon to be published.
