Rustam (Singh) was, formerly, assistant editor of Economic and Political Weekly, Bombay, a research associate at Centre for the Study of Developing Societies, Delhi, a fellow at Indian Institute of Advanced Study, Shimla, and editor of Hindi: Language, Discourse, Writing, New Delhi/Wardha — in that order. Apart from theoretical and philosophical papers and essays, which he writes in English, he has published a collection of poems in Hindi. He is currently senior fellow and senior editor in the publications wing of Eklavya, an NGO active in Madhya Pradesh, India.
