शांदोर वोरोश / Sándor Weöres
(1913-1981)
Weöres burst on to the Hungarian literary scene with his first collection of poems Hideg van (1934). Between 1957 and 1964 he was silenced for political reasons. His influence can be seen in all forms of poetry, including the sonnet, free verse etc.
A teremtés dicsérete (1938), A fogok tornáca (1947) and A hallgatás tornya (1956) are some of his notable books.
He has won: the 1935, 1936 Baumgarten Prize and the 1970 Kossuth Award.
