भूमंडलीय की हिंसा / Violence of the Global
| भूमंडलीय (ग्लोबल) हमारे समय का संभवतः सबसे संक्रामक उपसर्ग है उतना ही जितना कभी ‘आधुनिक’ हुआ करता था. आतंकवाद के साथ भूमंडलीय का अर्थ मुख्यतः ‘भौगोलिक’ है – लेकिन उसका एक ध्वन्यार्थ पश्चिमी दुनिया में ‘गैर-पश्चिमी’ भी है. फ्रांसीसी चिंतक बॉद्रिला ‘ग्लोबल’ (= ‘प्रौधौगिकी’, ‘बाज़ार’, ‘पर्यटन’, ‘सूचना’) को ‘यूनिवर्सल’(= ‘मानवाधिकार’, ‘स्वतंत्रता’, ‘संस्कृति’, ‘लोकतंत्र’) से अलगाते हुए, आतंकवाद को भूमंडलीय का ‘समकालीन जोड़ीदार’ बताते हैं और आतंकवाद को ऐसी संस्कृतियों के ‘अपमान’ की अभिव्यक्ति की तरह पढ़ते हैं जिन्हें यह अहसास सालता है कि उन्होंने पश्चिम से लिया बहुत कु़छ, पर उसे दिया क्या?

“Global” is possibly the most pernicious prefix of our times, much like “modern” used to be once. In the context of terrorism, the meaning of “global” is mostly geographical – but one of its resonances in the western world is also “non-western”. The French thinker Baudrillard, while separating “global” (= “industrial”, “market”, “tourism”, “information”) from “universal” (= “human rights”, “independence”, “culture”, “democracy”), calls terrorism the “present partner” of the global and reads terrorism as the expression of the insult to such cultures who feel humiliated by the thought that they have taken much from the West, but not given anything back.
