इस खंड के दो पाठों को आदिवासी जीवन पद्धति और आधुनिक राष्ट्र राज्य के उसके साथ विकटतर हो रहे संबंध की पृष्ठभूमि में पढ़ा जा सकता है. प्रसिद्ध गोंड-परधान चित्रकार जनगढ़ सिंह श्याम की कला पर लिखी गयी हिन्दी कवि-कथाकार उदयन वाजपेयी की पुस्तक जनगढ़ कलम, तेजी ग्रोवर और रुस्तम (सिंह) के अंग्रेजी अनुवाद में, उस साभ्यतिक काउंटर प्वाईंट को निरंतर कहने के साथ ही जो आदिवासी कल्पना में रहा आया है , उस व्यक्तिगत प्रतिभा की भी कथा कहती है जो एक परंपरा का पुनराविष्कार करती है. रणेन्द्र का उपन्यास ग्लोबल गाँव के देवता असुर समुदाय के समकालीन संकट का एक यथार्थवादी चित्रण है जो ‘विकास’ की आधुनिक एजेंसियों द्वारा किये जा रहे उपेक्षित समुदायों के नये हाशियाकरण की तरह पढ़ा गया है. उसके कुछ अंशों का अंग्रेज़ी अनुवाद राजेश कुमार ने किया है.

The texts in this section can be read against the backdrop of tribal life and its increasingly precarious relation to the modern nation state. Udayan Vajpeyi’s book on the art of famous Gond artist Jangadh Singh Shyam (in Teji Grover and Rustam (Singh)’s translation) tells not only the story of an individual talent rediscovering tradition, but also of the social counterpoint that has always lived in the tribal imagination. Ranendra’s novel God of the Global Village is a realistic depiction of the contemporary crisis in the Asur community, reading it as the marginalization of overlooked communities by the modern agencies of ‘progress’– an excerpt is presented here, in Rajesh Kumar’s English translation.
