चंद्र प्रकास देवल / Chandra Prakash Deval
Born 1949, Rajasthani and Hindi poet, and translator, Deval received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1979 for his first poetry collection Paagi. His other collections include Maarag, Kaavad, Topnama, Udeek Puran (Rajasthani) and the Meera Award winning Bolo Madhavi (Hindi). Besides translating the Upanishads, Fyodor Dostoyevesky’s Crime and Punishment and Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot, he has also translated major Indian poets like Sitakant Mahapatra, Haribhajan Singh, Subhash Mukhopadhyay, Kedarnath Singh , Sitanshu Yashaschandra, Ashok Vajpeyi, Ramakant Rath and K. Satchidanandan into Rajasthani. Recently he has completed his monumental bilingual edition of Suryamall Misan’s classic epic Vansh Bhaskar. His other awards include Bharatiya Bhasa Parishad Samman and Sahitya Akademi’s translation award.
