समकालीन भारतीय लेखकों में बिज्जी सबसे अनूठे हैं. अपना सारा जीवन जोधपुर के एक गाँव बोरूंदा में बिताने वाला यह डोकरा भारतीय आत्मा का लोक गायक है. यह अंक बिज्जी और उनके अभिन्न मित्र दिवंगत लोक कला मर्मज्ञ कोमल कोठारी के जीवन और कर्म को समर्पित है. क्रिस्टी मेरिल द्वारा अनूदित उनकी कहानी के प्रकाशन की अनुमति देने के लिये कथा के और हिन्दी कवि-कथाकार उदय प्रकाश द्वारा उन पर बनाई गई फिल्म को अपलोड करने की अनुमति के लिये हम निर्देशक और साहित्य अकादेमी के आभारी हैं.
Bijji is unique among contemporary Indian writers. He is the folk-singer of the Indian soul. This issue is dedicated to Bijji and to his dear friend, the folklorist and ethnomusicologist Komal Kothari, their life and work. We are thankful to Katha for permitting us to carry Christi Merrill’s translation of Bijji’s story, and to Uday Prakash and the Sahitya Akademi for permitting us to upload Uday’s film on Bijji.
