Gaze Of Colour: Bhashwati
In God We Trust
From the moment that my eyes alighted on it during a drive I named it ‘the steeple.’ Actually it is called the United Methodist Church on Lyndale. The twin cities have their share of magnificent domes and steeples but this one emerging at the turn of Freeway 94 west in a class by itself.
It is grey and elegant and appears like an unexpected blessing although I anticipate its appearance even as I set out in that direction.
Just as I anticipate the man who stands below it on cold nights, with the placard that says, “Help the Homeless.” He stands at the exact spot where the light from the steeple meets the curve of the exit.
Those who have no address do not count. They exist. And not all of them have cars to sleep in or church steeples blessing them.
