(1909-1944)

One of the most important Hungarian poets and translators. He was killed by German Nazi soldiers during the 2nd World War at the age of 35. His notebook of poems was found with him in his grave. “Postcard” is one of the poems in that notebook — one of his last. A master of classical and modern verse forms, he was also renowned for his transaltions from Greek, Latin and other languages into Hungarian. His collection of poems Tajtékos ég (1946) contains songs for his wife, letters and other poem-fragments.
