Born in Bombay in 1941, Jyotsna Milan did her MA in Gujarati Literature as well as in English Literature.

She has published two collections of poems (Ghar Nahin and Apne Aagey Aagey), four books of short stories (Cheekh ke Aar Paar, Khandhar, Andhere mein Intezaar and Ummeed ki Doosri Surat) and two novels (Apne Saath & A Astu Ka).

She has also written about and translated Gujarati poetry and two books by Ila R. Bhatt (Hum Savita and Lariyudh) and has been editing the women’s journal Anasuuyaa, published by the Self-Employed Women’s Association (SEWA), for over 20 years.

She has been awarded the Muktibodh Fellowship by the M.P. State Government (1985-86)and a Senior Fellowship by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (1993).
