यानोश पिलिंस्की / János Pilinszky
(1921-1981)
A philisophical poet, essayist and playwright, Pilinszky is a towering name in post-war Hungarian literature. He studied Law, Hungarian Literature and Art History at Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, but never completed his studies. His experiences as a soldier and prisoner of war left a marked impression on his work. He is also famous for his film and music criticism, letters, novels and his poetry for children.
His works inclide: Trapéz és korlát, Harmadnapon, Szög és olaj, A mélypont ünnepélye, etc. He has won: 1947 Baumgarten Prize, 1971 Attila József Prize, 1980 Kossuth Prize.
