वागीश शुक्ल / Wagish Shukla

Born 1946, writer and Indologist, Wagish Shukla teaches mathematics at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. He is a student of the Indian Classical Mind as revealed through Sanskrit, Persian and Hindi literature. He has published more than fifty articles in Hindi and English on these subjects. He is closely associated with the Special Centre for Sanskrit Studies at JNU, as a member of several committees and has recently edited the Centre’s journal Sanskrit Studies‘ second volume. He is Chief Associate Editor of the Encyclopedia of Indian Poetics, an ongoing project of the Sahitya Akademi.

Besides the scholarly works, Wagish Shukla has published poetry, fiction and literary criticism which include his ongoing work on Mirza Ghalib. He is not very fond of publishing books, the only exception being Chhand Chhand par Kumkum, a ‘teeka’ on Hindi poet Nirala’s poem Ram kee Shaktipooja.

    You will certainly not remember me because I left IIT Delhi due to family compulsions after one year in 1979. However, I do remember you because you took our batch’s first class in IITD in the First Semester.

    Am privileged to have been a student of such an illustrious individual.
