विपथगामियों का जलसा: वार्षिकांक विशेष कथा / Caravan of Contrarians: Anniversary Special Fiction
हुआन होज़े सेयर (1937-2005) को बमुश्किल ही ‘लातिन-अमेरिकी’ लेखक कहा जा सकता है. खुद अपने शब्दों में ‘लातिन-अमेरिकी-पन के घेटो’ – जादुई यथार्थवाद – से परे घटित होने वाले इस विपथगामी को अब बोर्खे़ज के बाद सबसे महत्वपूर्ण अर्जेंटीनी लेखक माना जाता है. 1985 में प्रकाशित उनके उपन्यास ग्लॉस के स्टीव डोल्फ द्वारा किये जा रहे और हिन्दी कथाकार मंज़ूर एहतेशाम के अविस्मरणीय उपन्यास दास्तान-ए-लापता के जेसन ग्रुनेबॉम और उलरिके स्टॉर्क द्वारा किये जा रहे अंग्रेज़ी अनुवादों के अंश; अप्रतिम मलयाली कथाकार पॉल ज़कारिया की अनुपमा राजू द्वारा अनूदित कहानी; और चार युवा कथाकारों कुरली मनिकावेल और शर्मिष्ठा मोहंती (अंग्रेजी) तथा शुभाशीष चक्रवर्ती और आशुतोष भारद्वाज (हिंदी) की कहानियाँ मिलकर इस खंड को विपथगामी कथा लेखन के एक जलसे में बदल देती हैं. खंड में दो युवतर कथाकारों – भूतनाथ और सौदा – की कहानियाँ भी शामिल हैं.
Juan Jose Saer (1937-2005) can hardly be called a Latin American writer. Having rejected what he called ‘the ghetto of Latin-American-ness’ (i.e. magic realism) he is now considered the most important Argentinian writer since Borges. In this section, we present an excerpt from Steve Dolph’s translation of his 1985 novel Glosa (courtesy Open Letter Books), along with an excerpt from Manzoor Ahtesham’s unforgettable novel Dastan-E-Lapata in Jason Grunebaum and Ulrike Stark’s translation, Anupama Raju’s translation of a story by the great Malayalam writer Paul Zachariah, and stories by Sharmistha Mohanty and Kuzhali Manickavel (English) and Shubhashish Chakraborty and Ashutosh Bhardwaj (Hindi) – a veritable caravan of contrarians! This section also includes stories by Bhootnath and Saudha Kasim.
